ABOUT SWAMI VIVEKANANDA YUVA SHAKTI YOJANE (SYSY)
Under SYSY, the Youth Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) are being formed in the NRLM-SHG’s format to promote upskilling, job training, and entrepreneurship promotion for the youth in the 18-29 age group.
OVERVIEW OF YOUTH JOINT LIABILITY GROUPS
What is a JLG
“Self-governed, peer-controlled informal group of youth with similar socio-economic background and a desire to collectively perform a common purpose.”
Definition
“A small economically homogenous affinity group voluntarily formed to save and contribute to a common fund to be lent to its members as per group decision that is working together for social and economic upliftment of their family and community.”.
Age and Group Size
18-29 years of age
4 to 10 member groups
Aim
To create employment opportunities for the youth in Rural Karnataka through skilling and job training and ensuring groups’ sustainability.

Objectives of Youth JLGs

- Create saving habits among the youth to build their own capital
- Encourage rural value creation through entrepreneurships, employment, and skilling of the youth
- Enhance the level of awareness on the development and welfare programs by the Government
- Encourage groups to learn literacy and numeracy
- Provide a common platform to discuss their problems and to find solutions
- Build opportunities to receive business loans seamlessly
- Engage the youth groups in village development activities
- Enhance the leadership qualities of the youth
- Guide the youth to utilize locally available resources

Increasing family income by adopting the Income Generation programs
Recognition through JLG Financial literacy, decision-making skill, leadership qualities, acquiring awareness of the political system, discipline network & linkage with other institutions
